The mind of God revealed in a weekend

My current vocabulary is not equipped with the right words to convey my joy of writing to you today.  The Spirit is strong right now, and what I mean by that is I can feel the fruits of the Holy Ghost: kindness, charity, joy, righteousness, peace, a desire to do good works, a desire to share my good feelings with others, and a motivation to bring others to Christ.  This weekend is like a holiday, a holiday that comes every six months for the Moreys.  I don’t mean a holiday as in a day off or a day of entertainment.  I am talking about a day, or rather, a weekend of receiving revelation.

Back in Indiana we would hang a banner Denielle crafted featuring the words: Come Listen to a Prophet’s Voice.  The other side said simply, General Conference.  The kids would get excited as we commenced General Conference weekend off with their favorite breakfast — crêpes.  We would prepare snacks for the day,  set up the living room to be as comfortable and as inviting as possible, and print and play with a favorite conference bingo game.  The week prior, we would limit our exposure to media, movies and music all in an attempt to prepare our minds for what was to come.

Other than the conference banner, we are keeping all the above family traditions as we watch General Conference here in Nebraska on our worldschooling adventure.

The Moreys prepare toppings for their bi-annual tradition of making crepes. Fruit in crepes tastes great; the fruits of the Spirit are infinitely sweeter.

Why is it like a holiday for us?  I will gather my family around the feet of God’s oracles — women and men who have been called by Him to share His good news.  We will tune in through the Internet, listening to — no, devouring — for a span of twelve hours, over two days, the mind of God.  He still reveals it.  We can still receive it.

Not unlike the spiritual process I put myself through to write Ask God, these oracles, albeit at a much higher level, will have been spiritually warming up for weeks, months, and really their entire lives, to deliver what they believe — and I believe — is the message from God, for me, for my family, for you, at this time.

Isn’t that what you believe happens in your church or congregation, or as part of your spiritual adventure?  Certainly you go hoping that your pastor, bishop, minister, mentor, or spiritual guru can counsel you on heavenly things and give you a piece of God’s mind — not just theirs — or at least help to interpret His word found in the Scriptures.   Right?

Over this weekend, as I listen to what I believe to be Living Water, I will apply the same principle I apply when I am reading.  I will ask if what I am hearing is from God.  I’ll ask how I might best apply it in my life and what I can write that will be a blessing to others.  In today’s case, I’ll ask for the Holy Ghost to help me find answers to the following questions that have been burning on my mind for some time:

What can I do to replace fear with faith, doubt with devotion, and pride with humility?

How can I cultivate charity in my life?

Who can I share the gospel with that will accept it as I do?

Are we doing the right thing and should we continue as we are?

Can you not do the same thing (minus perhaps the writing of a book or a blog) with what you read in your Scriptures, or what you hear on Sunday, or feel when you are meditating on God’s word?  Can you apply the principle of asking God to everything you hear and read?  He will tell you if it is true or not.  Try it!  Receiving revelation is fun — and rewarding.  #LDSconf
